A doormat doesn't have to be boring. At Studio LilaLine, it's a statement piece, a real eye-catcher upon entering. But it also needs to give the design plenty of space. That's why we deliberately choose mats without a rubber edge.
A traditional rubber border frames the design. And frankly, that doesn't suit our prints. They should continue, fan out, and blend into the space. Without interruption, without a frame. That's precisely why the mat feels more like a piece of interior design than a utilitarian object.
That doesn't mean we compromise on quality or ease of use. Our mats are low-pile and have a sturdy, non-slip PU backing. This ensures they stay in place, even without an edge. The mats are easy to cut to size with a utility knife, without the edges getting fluffy.
You can simply lay the mat loosely on the floor or let it sink in neatly near the front door. The design stays put, and more importantly, it really shines.
By the way, did you know that almost everyone thinks that a rubber edge has a functional reason?
That idea isn't entirely accurate. The reason is historical. When rubber mats were first produced, that border was necessary to prevent the mat from falling apart or developing unsightly edges. Since then, better techniques and materials have evolved. This allows us to design without borders, and they remain sleek and sturdy.
Choosing a LilaLine mat means choosing a different approach. Less technical, more visual. We consider not only function but also how a design feels in your home. And that starts with details like a border, or even eliminating one altogether.
